  1. Yes, there is a certain music box that my family has that evokes a memory of feeling small and young in a way that is just not recorded in writing, as it captures such a woven memory.
  2. By taking “ghosts” and thoroughly analyzing them, we can access things and aspects of things that have shoved away as to forget them and try and requalify them. Thus, we can find out information that can bring real people, places, and ideas back from the brink of being completely forgotten. In that way, we can reconcile with challenging and distressing things that remain unhealed and unsolved by simply being forgotten.
  3. The impact of being haunted by white supremacy is the reality that all of our society is constantly shaped by a past that is preferred forgotten. It means a world where everything is in one way or another affected by a history that is poorly documented and eradicated to keep a perpetuated system. A world haunted by white supremacy is one that can never fully heal, until each and every one of those “ghosts” of the past are fully investigated and brought to light.

Paragraph-Like Units

For Academic goals, first off the bat is keeping up with work. As a chronic procrastinator, I have to get used to creating a proper schedule or outline of when I need to do work, and sticking to it. Beyond that, another near term goal I marked down is to stay engaged in classes, since I have to get used to classes that have the potential to be almost three hours long, and a factor of that is to always make sure to get plenty of rest and just keep myself participating in classes. Longer term, I marked down the goal of actively looking for classes that aren’t just requirements or help me get some other end-term goal, but truly fascinate me and may be a bit out of my areas of expertise. Another goal I set was to always keep curious and keep thinking outside of the box, not to get hemmed in as I go further down my major’s path.

For personal goals, I thought about rudimentary current goals, to get my groundwork under me. So I thought about how I do want to be more social, and get used to and involved in the campus that I’m now residing at. Beyond that, I also further wanted to figure out which times do work best for me to to do what, and when I can have some time to myself. For longer term goals, I furthered my social emphasis as to be more outgoing and be willing to communicate in more situations, even ones I’m more unfamiliar with. Beyond that, just trying to figure out where I do indeed want to shape my academic path and what to do with the information that I’ll have learned in my time here. To really learn what I can do with the person I will have become.

Core Handbook Response and Questions

One aspect about the Core Values that I found key throughout was an emphasis on literacy in a multitude of areas, not just a track down one’s own major. For example, in Section 6, there are required classes for the arts and humanities track, but there is also a class in laboratory science to further broaden one’s mind as to what else is out there to know, as well as how it relates back to one’s own primary studies. This is in part why I did choose UNE, as it not only has a variety of fields to study in, but access to an excellent science program, an area I have always had interest in. But the fact that UNE does have such a emphasis on trying to form a well-rounded individual shows how forward thinking and complete a student the institution tries and make.

Do other schools have such an emphasis on environmentalism as a key area?

How do critical thinking classes work at UNE?
